Wind Energy Jobs and Wind Energy Careers !!!

Wind energy jobs are going to become more available in future. Wind renewable energy generation and consumption has grown significantly in the last few years in many parts of the world.

As an example, year 2010 brought a 25 percent increase in wind capacity to a total of 39.4 GW (200,000 MW from just 2010) around the world. Additionally, wind annual capacity has grown by an annual average of 27.4 percent. Therefore, there is a strong trend towards tapping renewable wind energy as an alternative energy source.

One will need to enroll in wind turbine schools to get the technical education to pursue wind power jobs. Wind energy careers are an emerging field so the job descriptions may need a combination of technical and non-technical (sales, marketing, engineering, earth science) training. There are various wind energy careers options available. Some of the options are:

1) Technical Positions

Wind Turbine Machinist:: As the job title describes, this position deals with making the wind turbines run smoothly by identifying the structural problems associated with wind turbines. One needs to have a background in production metal and plastic parts to be successful in these wind power jobs.

Wind Turbine Builder:: As the job title describes, this position deals with constructing wind turbines. One can join a wind turbine school to get the necessary training and seek this professional position. However, it is also possible to construct a wind turbine yourself to generate power for your own home. This is specially relevant if you live in a place that is not supported by the traditional electrical grids (many places in the world still don't have provide electricity to rural areas) to you want to subsidize your electric bill by creating a grid tie-in system.

Wind Energy Technicians: As the job title describes, this position deals with maintenance of wind turbines on large wind farms. This position requires strong knowledge and background in electrician and/or mechanical fields. One shouldn't be afraid of heights since maintenance work requires doing at the work at a certain height from the ground.

2) Management Positions

Wind Farm Construction Manager: This position allows one to do the overall management of the project site activities. As the job title describes, one would be managing the whole project by coordinating the internal and external stakeholders, dealing with operating budges, managing purchasing, and so on. One would at least need a bachelor's degree and 4-5 yrs. experience in the field. Since this is a management position, it is advisable to have some technical training and field experience and also enrolls in management degrees such as green MBA programs. A Green MBA allows one to integrate one's technical skills for this management position.

3)Sales/Marketing/Management Positions

Wind Energy Field Sales Professional: This position requires one to evaluate custom suitability for wind renewable energy, grow, mentor, and manage a sales team. The usual responsibilities would be to generate sales, present project proposals, and developing customer relationship.s The job might require as associate or a bachelors degree. Similar to solar energy careers, sales professional in wind energy job today may earn up to $100,000/year.

Wind Development Director: This position is very similar to wind construction manager except one has a broader role in conceptualizing the project from the beginning. Wind development director have extensive experience in the field (more than 10 yrs.) and have the technical expertise to weigh in on decisions such as on site selection, project development, working out the logistics and making sure that the proposed project come to fruition. One would definitely need a bachelor's degree for this position and would be well served by having a management degree such as a Green MBA
