Exploring Solar Energy India and Solar Power India
Solar Energy India is becoming a real game-changer in the deficient energy sector in India. The India government plans to have 20,000 megawatts of solar energy-based electricity generation by 2022 which is considered unrealistic by many people. However, during the first phase, the Indian government has given out 620 MW of projects in December, 2011 and plans to call bids later this month for projects totaling about 300 megawatts. The first phase is to be completed by March 2013. Energy sector in India has a total installed capacity of approximately 1,46,753 Megawatt (MW). Out of which majority of it is coal-based (54%), hydro contributes 25 % and only 8% is supported by renewable energy source. The rest of the shortfall comes from natural gas and nuclear energy. Even though the installed capacity is huge, it is estimated that demand for additional 11% of total energy will lead to power shortages. Therefore, tapping into alternative energy sources may allow to meet the shortfall.

Solar energy India meets the needs of the rural sector since many of the rural areas are not served by the traditional electric-grid systems. As an example, the most common used of solar panels India is the development of solar lanterns. These lamp is a low cost cost lighting solution to specifically meet the needs of rural areas where either there is no grid-based electricity or the power supply is irregular and erratic. Solar Lanterns these days use LED or CFL and can be used for indoor as well as outdoor usages. The advantage of using solar lanterns is that it is pollution free and taps free solar alternative energy. The solar lanterns use solar photovoltaic (PV) module of 5-6 Watts and even allows for charging some models of cell phone. Many people in urban areas are beginning to realize the potential of solar panels India.

The government of India has established various agencies to lead the renewable energy sector to increase energy supply and meet the needs of decentralized energy needs of the rural areas. The strategy is administered through India's: Ministry of New Renewable Energy (MNRE); Energy development agencies in the various States; and the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited(IREDA). The Solar Energy Center (SEC) falls under MNRE and undertakes activities related to research and development (R&D) that includes design, development, testing, standardization, consultancy, training and information dissemination in the field of solar alternative energy. Therefore, solar energy India has vast potential to not only replace energy supply provided by fossil fuels but to supply energy to energy-deficient rural ideas. However, the market growth and commercial realization will be dependent on government policies, market needs, prices of photovoltaic panels, and development of new technologies.
